When a squirrel is found in your Atlanta area attic, the first step is to call an expert who can devise a removal plan. Simply catching the squirrel in attic locations is not enough – you need a thorough extermination plan to ensure the squirrels never return. To do that, we focus on three primary areas – removal, sanitization, and entry way blockage. After squirrel removal from attic spaces, prevention is the most important step.
Finding their Point of Entry
First, we must find the entry point. If you hear squirrel noises in your attic – usually scurrying and possibly vocalizations – call us immediately for an inspection to determine where they are living and where they might have gotten in from. Most squirrels enter attics near the eaves. Fallen vents, small gaps or gaps between the eaves and the roof of the house can all lead to easy entry points for squirrels that you may not have noticed.
Finding this entry point may be hard, but be patient and the squirrels in your yard will likely show you how they get in. Squirrel in attic problems always start with an easy entry point – we like to know where that is before starting the removal process.
Tactics for Squirrel Removal from Attic
Once we know where the squirrels are coming into the attic, we can begin to trap them. The easiest way to do this is with a single one way trap at the entry point. If there are multiple entry points, we will seal all but one or two of them and then install one way traps to capture squirrels as they try to leave the attic (which they often do to forage for food). Food traps are effective, but they can be triggered by the elements, wasting perfectly good traps and letting squirrels go free. It also ensures you capture only the squirrel in your attic.
Acting on Squirrel Noises
It’s best to continue capturing squirrels with a trap for at least a week before considering your attic free. When you release the squirrels from the trap, make sure you go very far from your home so they can’t find their way back. Squirrel removal from attic spaces is not complete until that space has been thoroughly cleaned as well. The presence of urine or droppings can attract other squirrels or help them find their way back.
