How to Get Rid of Mouse Infestations

Finding mice on your property can be stressful. Once they get in they make all kinds of noise, leave droppings, destroy your property, and may carry diseases that put you and everyone else in your building at risk. In order to get rid of mouse invasions, you need a carefully structured approach that allows you to permanently remove these mice and keep them from coming back. Your exterminator will do the following:

Inspection – The first step necessary to get rid of mouse issues is to inspect the entirety of your home and figure out where the mice are hiding. In order to successfully remove mice it’s important to know where they are likely to be. Some are in walls, others hide in attics – inspection will help the exterminator figure out where to best target the mice for removal.
Place Traps/Poison – Once the exterminator has inspected your property they will start to lay the traps (or poison, if it is used) to remove the mice. Depending on the space and location, they’ll lay where they believe the mice are most likely to congregate. Then it’s time to wait for the traps to work.
Follow Up – Once the traps have had a chance to work, the exterminator will come back and remove them. From there they will inspect your home one more time. If necessary, they will lay more traps and poison to get rid of any pests that remain and ensure you are able to completely get rid of mouse infestations.
Removal – The exterminator will come back one additional time to get rid of mice that are stuck in the traps and safely remove them. They will perform one last inspection, the removal will be complete, and your home or property will be mouse free. If the exterminator is concerned about contamination, a decontamination process may occur.
Exclusion/Prevention – Finally, to ensure that you don’t find more mice inside your home in the future, a trained expert will explore your home and find if there are any areas that could use exclusion procedures. Exclusion is the process of sealing up holes and potential entrance ways to stop mice from invading.
Once the entire process is complete, it’s important to take a few precautions of your own. Keeping your home clean and free of dirt, stray food, and clutter will also keep the pests from finding your home desirable, so that you won’t have to get rid of mouse problems in the future.

The Process to Remove Mice

Every property is different. Larger, commercial properties may need an extra treatment in order to handle the vast number of mice that may be living inside walls and in storage areas. Smaller homes may only need one treatment if a single mouse is found. You can also get exclusion completed even if you do not currently have a mouse problem.
