Infestation by a raccoon or raccoon family is a major problem. These creatures, which can grow up to 40 pounds if well fed, are incredibly damaging and potentially dangerous if left unchecked. They will rummage through your insulation, tear holes in soffit corners and damage your roofing tiles. Raccoon pest control aims to ensure this never happens and that a raccoon in your home is immediately removed as soon as it is noticed.
How Does Raccoon Pest Control Work?
Raccoon pest control is different from raccoon extermination because we don’t aim to kill the animals. Unlike rats which can breed quickly and return to your home, raccoons do not breed as often or as fast and therefore can be removed from the house humanely and placed miles away. This allows us to remove raccoons from your home using one way traps placed carefully on your roof.
When we visit your home for the first time we check for entry points. Once all entry points are documented, all but one or two are closed up and traps are placed at the remaining points. Because raccoons must eventually exit your home to get food and water, they will go through the remaining exit points and be trapped.
These traps are then taken to a space far away from your home for release – since raccoons have a home radius of 1 mile, they won’t return from distances of 5-10 miles away, preferably in a wooded, uninhabited space.
How to Tell if You Have a Raccoon
Raccoons are similar to rats and squirrels in that they go for your attic first because of its easy access and relative warmth. However, unlike rats and squirrels, they are much bigger and therefore noisier and potentially more destructive. Look for signs of damage on your roof that a rat could never cause and listen for sounds of scurrying in your attic to know what type of animal you’re dealing with. Additionally, look for droppings. Raccoon droppings are much larger than rat or squirrel droppings.
Raccoon pest control can be a quick and simple process if you call soon. You want to avoid potential breeding or the presence of multiple raccoons in the same space. Do this and your home will be clean and safe from raccoons in the foreseeable future.
