Trapping Rats
Trapping rats is a complex process that begins with finding the source of their entry, then identifying their food source and placing traps in key locations where they frequently are found. Rat trapping is considered a significantly more effective and less dangerous method of extermination than poisons which can lead to dead rats in your walls or ceiling and pose a direct health risk to your children and pets.
We employ the best rat trappers in the Atlanta area, meaning you can rely on us to remove your infestation quickly and efficiently.
How We Trap Rats
Trapping rats starts with the actual traps. There are a number of options available to choose from. The first of these and the most effective in our opinion is the snap trap. These traditional traps (you’ve probably seen them in Saturday morning cartoons) are effective when sized properly for your infestation. If you have mice, the rat sized traps will work, so we recommend you choose the 12-20 sized traps when trapping rats in your home.
Next, you need to choose bait for rat trapping. Almost anything will work for bait, but choose a food that you know the rats in your home cannot resist – preferably something they’ve already gotten into multiple times. Dog food is always a good bet.
Setting Your Rat Traps
Once you have good traps and bait that will draw the rats to a central source, it’s time to lay those traps. Traps should be placed in the most common places that rats are found. This includes anywhere with a lot of rat tracks or droppings. Avoid locations where children or pets might go so no one accidentally gets snagged by a trap. Most of the time, trapping is done strictly in the attic to avoid this risk – we recommend the same though it will depend on the specifics of your home what works best.
What about Mouse Trapping?
For many homeowners, mice are as big or bigger a problem than rats. If this is the case, make sure you communicate this to the rat trapper who visits your home. Mice are similar in many ways but may need special attention due to their habits. Atlanta mouse infestations are common, but usually rats are the primary culprits and their habits are most important when setting up a rat trapping plan.
